The underdog Western Pacific was completed in 1909 with the driving of a golden spike at the center of the Spanish Creek trestle, known today as the famous Keddie Wye. One hundred years later, the Feather River Route provides a vital transportation link as part of the transcontinental freight rail network. | Fifty Candles for Western Pacific |
The
final issue of Western Pacific's company magazine, Mileposts (March 1983 issue) carried a reprint
of Gil Kneiss' 1953 article, "Fifty Candles for Western Pacific", which chronicled
the history of The Western Pacific Railroad Company, from the original
organizing meeting of March 3, 1903 down through the subsequent
fifty years. The article is reproduced here in its entirety. |

Annual reports were issued after the end of each fiscal year to provide an overview of the company's financial condition.
